I wouldn't even know where to start. There's all this fucked up shit and we don't know half of it, all I got is a couple prophecies to go off and a lich who we thought was evil but helped us out, I guess? The only person I trust anymore is a fucking ten year old, so that's where I'm at.

[He doesn't even realize what he's missing, it's a lot more than he thinks.]

How much do you have to do before you're... an expert wizard?

[ It's awkward phrasing. Taako already seems like an expert to him, but he said he has some limits. ]

That shit takes a lotta practice and a lotta study. I guess I'm like, uh, a little more than half as powerful as I could be?

[Considering how impressed everyone is by even basic magic, he isn't too worried about admitting he isn't insanely powerful by the standards back home. Someone like Lucretia would probably still wreck his shit.]

Here, I've got like-- Hang on. [Taako hops out of his seat and disappears into the bedroom for a few seconds, coming back with a beat up looking book in his hands, the cover and all the text is in a foreign script. He flicks through it, then marks a page with a finger, before holding it up to show Clark the width of the book on either side of where he's marked.

It's about what he said - in the middle.] Shit I can pull off is on one side, shit I can't is on the other. And that's just what I know, there's probably a few things I've missed.

[He has access to the Bureau's library, and he'd copied down as many spells as he could, but it's possible there's stuff even the Bureau doesn't have.]

[ It looks like anyone can learn it with time and inclination. He picks up language a little quicker than most, and even skimming the words he thinks this is good. It has rules, so it's less of a mystery. ]

How long until you've finished the book?

[He flicks to the back of the book where there's black pages for him to add more spells as he finds them.]

A lotta wizards are always trying new shit, trying to figure out more spells. This here is what I know I don't know, you feel? [Does that make sense?] There's kind of a limit at how powerful we can get without skirting warlock territory, but when it comes to spells it's just about experimentation.

[It's almost science-y, really. Although the error part of "trial and error" is very risky.]

How often do you invent something you can use?

Like me personally, or wizards in general? Cause if we're talking me, I'm way too stupid for that. I'd probably fucking kill myself.

I mean, I totally let my subscription to Wizarding Weekly lapse, but it's probably in the range of decades rather than like, months.

[Taako sets the spell book down so he can pick up his mug again, taking another sip of coffee.]

Just don't consider me an expert on any of this shit, I'm not exactly a traditional wizard.

Oh yeah like, I'm super happy to answer questions, but most wizards do this whole apprenticeship thing and learn all about wizard history and shit. I kinda skipped that bit cause it sounded boring as hell.

[He was too poor to afford it, actually, but Clark doesn't need his sob story.]
