(She smiles absently down at her hands, which are linked in her lap. She can tell that he means it, and that makes her happy.)

What– what about Rin? How's that going?

It's pretty fucking great.

[Taako is caught between wanting to drop his head into Lucretia's lap and wanting to keep drinking, so for now he just moves to drape an arm lazily across her shoulders.]

We're taking it slow, which is like - fine, he's been through a lotta shit.

[So Taako is trying to be gentle, in his own way.]

(Aw, he's happy. She can tell that too, and it softens her about the edges exponentially. Her friends being happy is her most favourite thing.)

Sure. You've been through some crap too, Taako, it's– I mean, taking it slow is probably helpful for the both of you right now.

But you've only just started dating, so I can't imagine that's something you're considering anyway.

It's been like, two months. [That's an amount of time!] How long have you and Bev been seeing each other?

(The fuck, she could have sworn that only just happened.)

Oh, wow: I've been with Beverly for four.

It was like, just after Lup went all lich-y, cause the whole thing started when he was chewing me out for not telling him about that.

['Chewing him out' is exaggerating, Rin was just a bit upset.]

You gonna do something for your six months if you're both still around?

Yeah, Lup mentioned he wasn't very fond of that. Why is that, exactly?

(Lup hadn't gone into enough detail for her liking and she's still curious.)

Probably, yes. Six months is a long time. I'm– I've been here for six months.

Uh, he's a sane fucking person? Ninety nine percent of liches are straight up evil and will try to kill you.

[And Rin is from a version of Fearun, so he'd known exactly what Lup was, unlike other people who just probably assumed she was some kind of ghost.]

Oh yeah. (She snorts.) You know, if it weren't for Wonderland we might have all ended up with the misconception that liches aren't all bad, huh.

Nine months... three off a cycle. (She sighs, gives the nape of her neck a rub.)

When are they going to send us back?

So we should thank them?

[He's joking, but it's very dry.]

I dunno, maybe it's like... harder to lock back onto our reality cause of all the shit with the Hunger?

Absolutely not, but they certainly provided a little perspective on what Barry and Lup had to battle.

(She nods, thoughtfully.) Maybe.

I feel like I should be used to waiting games by now.

[spellslots]

I saw Barry nearly lose it a couple times, spooky stuff.

[After he found out about Lup, after Refuge. It had been scary at the time, but looking back it's just a little bit heartbreaking.]

We did spend a hundred years doing it, eight months is not that much.

[scholiast]

Mmm. (Lucretia hasn't seen either of them come close. They loved each other too much, and after Lup disappeared Lucretia had taken herself away from the rest of them to plan, and to hide from Barry and Taako's distress.)

I know. It does feel like its gone pretty quick, actually.

[spellslots]

[Mildly:] Remember how I nearly got killed fighting you like three months ago?

[hahaha good joke]

That was three months ago?

(Her tone is a little too casual.) I'm glad we've decided to make that a one time thing only.

[It feels like forever ago and yesterday at the same time.]

Well, you had to leave me a little bit in tact so Thor could have a go at it.

[question: why does he keep getting himself into these situations]

(Lucretia grimaces. As much as she wants to berate him, she can't tell him off for getting hurt by her. Kinda makes everything else moot.)

Maybe this month we'll strive for no grevious bodily harm, hmm?

(She pats his knee very gently.)

I'm gonna do my best, I'll even keep outta the forest cause I think this holiday coming up is gonna keep me way too busy to be fucking around.

[He goes out in the forest less and less these days, now that there are a lot of people here he'd rather be spending time with, but when he first arrived he went out fairly often.]

(Oh, she wasn't aware he went out into the forest that much.)

Good. At least until the holidays are over. I promised Lup we'd celebrate Candlenights as peacefully as possible this year.

(A big promise considering her track record with Taako, but Lucretia feels positive about the whole thing. Besides, she feels like she owes Lup at least this much.)

[It's a reminder, in a way, of why Lucretia in particular owes Lup a good Candlenights, after she had to deal with ten of them stuck in an umbrella. Not that he thinks Lup would've been aware of time passing, but that's not the point.

But he's too stoned to want to fight about it.]

When are we gonna get the Candlenights bush? Should we make Magnus do it?

[scholiast]

Couple days? Hey, let's all get together and sort it out one night, it'll be fun.

(They haven't been together just the four of them in what seems like a very long time.)
