[It's easy to cast a quick locate person and then a teleport spell to take him about five feet away from where Rin is.

Of course, he didn't think about what he was going to do next, nor did he consider like, the whole street thing that's happening here because he was very clearly settled in for the night, judging by the galaxy yoga pants and oversized sweatshirt he's wearing. The only thing he grabbed was the umbra staff, which he looks down at a little awkwardly before glancing up at Rin.]

Uh, hi?

[ Rin's dressed in his usual formal clothes, as though he had an actual destination in mind when he left the communal housing. He didn't--he just spends as little time in the dorms as possible.

As awkward as things feel, he can't help but cover his mouth (cufflinks glinting) at the sight of Taako. ]

You look cozy.

[Oddly enough, that helps. Taako sort of spreads his arms as if gesturing to himself, because he can be embarrassed about being bad at flirting and talking about his feelings, but he's hard to embarrass about his fashion choices.]

It's late, sue me. [He still feels a little awkward, but this at least is familiar, and he smiles when he spots the cufflinks.] Oh hey, you liked them?

[ What--?

He pauses, glancing from the cufflinks to Taako, and then back again.

(Perception still not his highest stat.) ]

Oh. These were from you?

[ He twists his wrist, watching them glint in the moonlight. ]

They're gorgeous.

[Taako nearly says something like obviously, before pausing to actually think about how he went about the delivery, and:]

You know what, in retrospect, that one's on me, should've realized you might not know the mongoose thing.

[As if this is a perfectly normal sentence to say out loud. Still, he moves on quickly.]

I'm glad you like 'em.

[And he means that.]

[ Taako's lucky that little guy didn't get stabbed. Rin sees no need to mention that, though, seeing as how no actual stabbing took place. He shakes his head. ]

You're just full of surprises, aren't you?

[Eh, it would've been fine, it's not a real mongoose.]

I do try my best. [wait.] If that's a compliment, I'm gonna just take it as a compliment.

[ He reaches for Taako's hand, pulls him in close. ]

It's mostly a compliment.

[ There are some--like the Lup thing--that he could do without. But they haven't all been bad.

He leans forward, his low voice smooth against Taako's ear. ]

Now, then. Was there something I could do for you?

[There's some kinda smart response on the tip of his tongue, but then Rin is very close and Taako is so bad at flirting when it's actually progressing to something genuine. He gets distracted too easily, but he's going to try. Bless him.]

Pretty sure, uh, you were the one wanting something?

[Taako admitted that he liked Rin, but Rin is the one that was talking about kissing.]

[ This probably isn't a good idea. No--it's definitely a bad idea. How much does Taako even know about him? What would it change, if he did?

Rin lingers for a second. Despite appearances, he's not a one-night stand kind of man. He doesn't do friends with benefits. He likes to do things properly; fully. Even if they don't turn out how he hopes.

(Which, if he's honest with himself: they never do, for various reasons.)

He pulls back slightly, meeting Taako's eye. It's a beautiful, clear night. The air is crisp, the breeze gentle. Taako's wearing cute pajamas.

Well, fuck it. ]

That's true.

[ He cups Taako's chin with one hand, pressing his thumb against Taako's bottom lip as he goes in for the kiss. It's soft and careful, slow and deliberate. He holds it for as long as he can. ]

[He thinks, as Rin looks at him, that maybe he should be a little nervous here, about whatever way this goes, but he realizes that he's... fine, with how it shakes out. His cards are on the table and it's in Rin's hands now, the least Taako can do is give him a couple seconds to make his decision.

Still, he's pleased with the outcome.

There's no hesitation before Taako returns the kiss, more than happy to follow Rin's lead on this. After a moment of internal deliberation about what to do with his free hand, he ends up loosely sliding it around Rin's waist; it feels important to not hold on too tightly, to make sure that Rin can pull away when he's ready, but until then Taako has zero interest in breaking the kiss.]

[ Eventually, a man does have to breathe. Rin breaks the kiss at length, pulling back slightly, slowly. Taako's hand is warm on his waist. ]

There's more where that came from.

[ He's trying to be smooth, but it's at least partly a cover for a sudden anxious swirl in his stomach. He's a lot of talk, but it's always just that--talk. After weeks of chaste dates, and now this impromptu confession, things are moving somewhere serious. Somewhere vulnerable. What will he suffer for this, and how soon will he suffer it? ]

If you want them.

[He's reluctant to pull back but - breathing is indeed a thing. He should work on that.]

Oh, thank fuck, I was worried this was a one time deal.

[Rin can be smooth and Taako can play at being cool and collected, even if he's a little flustered.

At some point he realizes they should probably have a discussion about whatever this is and is going to be, but they can take that one step at a time, and the first step needs to be Taako being honest about something.]

If, uh, if there is gonna be more of this, which I'm totally down for bee-tee-dubs, there's something I gotta show you. [Before he can chicken out, Taako drops his disguise self spell.] Had a bad run in with some liches, not all of them are as chill as Lup.

[He knows that doesn't explain much, but he wants to give Rin a second.]

[ He doesn't respond right away. It's not because he really needs any time to process things--to his mind, Taako is less ethereally beautiful, sure, but (despite how he certainly portrays himself) Rin isn't that shallow. Beauty is fine, aesthetics are good, style is necessary--but Rin already thinks of those things as masks. Rin already knows how easy it is to hide a dagger behind a lovely face.

So he's quiet for only a second. ]

If you want to frighten me off, you're gonna have to do a lot better than that.

[ He takes Taako's free hand, brushes a kiss over his knuckles. He looks up, winking, and as he does so, one of his lavender eyes turns red. ]

Nothing wrong with makeup, darling.

[It's not that he expected a bad reaction, he's just - wary, about this, and he wants to be honest with it even if this is slightly different than with Kravitz, who knew him before Wonderland.

Still, he's relieved, enough to roll his eyes at that remark, enough to make a joke.]

Pretty sure it's Lup's job to scare off dudes I'm into.

[He's terrible at thank yous, but after that kiss to his knuckles he turns his hand to properly hold Rin's, giving it a light squeeze. The eyes don't bother him either, he's dated a dude who's literal fucking skeleton with glowing red eyes. so, you know.]

But, hey, as much as I'm totally into the voyeurism thing - [tmi???] - do you wanna go somewhere that isn't the middle of a random sidewalk?

Sadly for the two of you, I've already faced that particular threat and lived to tell the tale.

[ He bows slightly, making a flourishing gesture with his other hand. NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THE VOYEURISM COMMENT, though internally he's glad that a blush does not tend to register on his skin. ]

I'd say 'your place or mine' right here, but my place involves about a dozen other people, so ...

[Taako absolutely had a comment to make there, but he's distracted by the little bow because it's so charming, what the fuck.]

Okay, you really gotta tell me why you haven't moved out yet, but let's do this first. [a beat, and:] In a couple goes, cause someone already used his teleportation spell once today.

[It was him, he did that thing in order to get to Rin quicker. Dont @ him.

Luckily they aren't too far from his place, but it still takes three casts of dimension door, only staying in each new location for a couple seconds before they finally make it to Taako's apartment. At which point he lets out a little huff of breath; he's out of practice with casting a bunch of spells in a row.]

[ He shrugs. ]

I don't have anywhere else to go.

[ Long and short of it. He rubs Taako's back, not really thinking about it, just as an automatic response to seeing the other man out of breath. ]

Thanks for the lift.

[He's okay! It takes a couple seconds to catch his breath, but he hasn't totally burned through all his magic, just a bunch of it.]

I mean, neither did I? But I still didn't wanna live with a bunch of chucklefucks I didn't know, so I found a place.

[Maybe Rin doesn't want to live alone? But that doesn't really fit with Taako's mental image of Rin.]

Can I get you anything? Coffee? Wine? That terrible whiskey Lup keeps buying for some fucking reason?

[ He rubs his fingers together. ]

As I understand it, such things cost money. I'm afraid I am not a rich man.

[ He's not overly fond of sleeping in close proximity to literally anyone, but he's even less fond of spending what little currency he's managed to accrue.

He makes a 'hmm' noise in his throat. No, no alcohol. That wouldn't do. ]

Coffee. Black.

[Something like consideration crosses Taako's face, as heads to the coffee pot (he can't be bothered to fuck around with anything fancy this late), pouring two mugs, one for himself, one for Rin.

As he stirs sugar into his own, he finally finishes his thought.]

If it's like, the bond or whatever that'd give you trouble, I could hook you up with a loan?

[It's not any kind of charity, but Taako is living comfortably enough here that he could help out, so he might as well.

And because he's incapable of being totally serious:]

I mean, I didn't expect to end up as a sugar daddy, but I can roll with it.

[stop!!]

[ Rin shakes his head. Also on the list of things he's not fond of: debts. ]

Don't worry about it. I'll endure. Besides, I only go there for a brief rest now and then.

[ He curls his hands around the mug, sighing at its warmth. ]

I'm not really much of a homemaker.

[It still seems odd to him, but Taako isn't one to push the point, so he'll let that part of it go.]

A few months ago I would've said the same and like, not to get all sappy and domestic and shit, but this is actually pretty fucking chill, having somewhere nice to live and not waiting for the world to end every year.

[Also he's going to remember this slight. Of Rin ignoring his very good joke.]

[ SORRY TAAKO ... it's all just become cute gibberish to him at this point. ]

You live comfortably.

[ This he allows, as he raises his mug. ]

But it's not something I'm used to, or good at.

[ His exceptionally fine clothing might suggest otherwise, but then ... that was the point of it. ]

Besides, I don't need a daddy.

[ THERE U GO. ]

[Well, at least he died as he lived, being a shit, because Taako might actually laugh himself to death here, despite covering his mouth with a hand to try to keep it together. The word 'daddy' coming out of Rin's mouth is a transcendent fucking experience.

He has to put his coffee down and everything.

Eventually, but a little breathlessly:]
