[Thor doesn't mind if Taako occupies himself with a task. He almost wants to ask for another job, but he feels at this point he'd hinder more than help. He works on his coffee slowly, taking a sip before he responds.]

Rogers invited him back to his world.

[He says it as impassively as he can.]

They've known each other for like, six months? What the fuck?

[It's genuine confusion; in his mind that's nothing, not long enough to fall in love, not long enough to ask someone to leave their family, no matter how strained it is. He knew, vaguely, that things were serious between Steve and Loki, but this is still something he can't wrap his head around.

(He hasn't forgotten Kravitz saying he loved him, after only a few months, and it's lucky it happened in the middle of the apocalypse because otherwise Taako would've freaked the fuck out.)]

I left Asgard for a woman I'd known for a few days.

[He clears his throat.] It, ahh, didn't end well. But six months is a long time- for Loki at least.

[Moving on..]

He's adaptable. He'll make it work.

What about you? Are you gonna make it work?

[Taako is bad at feelings, but there's a gentleness in the question that's there because this is about siblings and it's about siblings leaving, and Taako can't think of a single thing that would break his heart more.]

It's not about me. Not anymore. [He smiles, because he's joking about it, but it's kind of mirthless.]

Loki believes he has lived in my shadow since we were children. He's done everything in his power to escape it, I see no reason to hold him back. [And he doesn't think Loki would stay if he asked, anyway.]

[Taako's quiet for a little while, focusing on kneading out the dough because he has to remind himself that Thor and Loki aren't like him and Lup. It's different and he can't compare the two, but it's - difficult, not to see their situation and ache.]

It'd kill me, if Lup left.

[Maybe that's an offer, for Thor to admit that he's not as okay with this as he's pretending to be. Maybe it's just the truth.]

Do you want him to stay?

More than anything.

[Thor says, frankly. He can play it cool, but there's no sense in lying about what he wants.]

But we're two different people on two very different paths and neither one of us can yield for the other. We diverge or we collide.

Have ya told him that?

[Taako and Lup don't always talk about their feelings, about what they want, but that's because it's never really been necessary. They can communicate without having to spell things out. Sometimes he gets the impression that half of the problems with Thor and Loki arise from misunderstandings.

Probably because Loki is awful at honesty.]

He knows it's not what I want, but I told him that he should pursue it, find a home and be happy.

[Thor isn't sure how much he should say. He knows Taako reasonably well, but he knows Loki is very close to him. He's not sure he would appreciate being spoken about, but maybe it will help him.

In a small, guilty way, Thor almost hopes Taako will help Loki stay. Not that it matters.]

I told him that he means everything to me, no matter where he is, but that he doesn't have to be with me.

[Most people don't like being talked about, especially people like Loki (and Taako) who try to keep everything neatly hidden away, but he feels like this is important.]

You can tell you're the eldest.

[He means that as a compliment.]

Because I'm resigned to his behavior by now?

[Thor folds his arms over his chest and leans back on the bench.]

[He throws a bit of dough at Thor.]

Not what I meant and you know it.

[Thor flinches when it hits him, then he crinkles his nose as he wipes it off.]

What did you mean, then?

[spellslots]

You're putting him first, over what you want.

[Taako's not sure he could do it, if he could let Lup go, and he's grateful he'll never need to find out.]

As opposed to holding him hostage and forcing him to stay with me forever and ever?

[spellslots]

[Thor gets a look for being difficult.]

As opposed to asking him to stick with you.

[Because they both know that Loki probably would, if Thor asked.]

I know better than to set myself up for disappointment. If Loki wanted to be with me, he'd stay, but we're beyond that now.

[Thor shrugs.] If he can be happy anywhere, it's a win. Maybe that is maturity speaking. I think it might be more akin to setting realistic goals.

[He has a feeling they're reaching the end of this discussion, so he picks up on a less serious point.]

And how many centuries did it take you to get that maturity?

[worldsaway]

Centuries? Ten- fifteen, maybe? [Thor needs to think about that one.]

It only really kicked in after I got banished.

[spellslots]

[He knows he started this, but fifteen is a big number.]

I always fucking forget how old you are, it's wild.

[Taako's got a few centuries under his belt, but that's nothing compared to how long the Asgardians have been around.]

I'm not old, I'm not even middle aged. [Thor defends.]

I prefer the term long-lived.

Fair point. [Taako laughs, holding up a hand in concession.] I know that shit is relative, I'm still pretty young for an elf, but like, I can't imagine living that long, eight hundred is about our limit.

You get used to it, but then, I didn't really interact with mortals until recently. I didn't really leave Asgard much at all, unless it was to go fighting across the realms.

[Thor pauses to think.] Do you ever think about the fact that Loki is old enough to be your father?

[spellslots]

[Wait a second.]

Are you trying to make it weird?

[What he's asking without asking is does Thor actually know that Taako's had a big old crush on Loki since day one. Because - that's a little embarrassing?]

How am I making it weird?

[Thor has suspicions, and he's curious, but he gets what he wants by acting dense.]
