[He's just teasing; it'll probably be something stupid and easy that he'll ask for eventually.]
When do you wanna do this?
no subject
[ And he's not even lying. ]
Whenever you're up for it.
no subject
It's not that Taako is actively cruel, but he's not really a good person.]
It takes me like, six seconds to cast, you wanna come over now you can.
[Poe will get a text with Taako's addresss! It's in the artsy district of the city, because of course it is]
no subject
Okay. I'm coming.
[ AND THEN HE HANGS UP and very determinedly walks to Taako's place instead of running even though running would probably help his nerves more. He's going to deal with magic. Magic cast on him. Magic that will make him into something entirely different. It's weird. ]
no subject
Taako has no idea how long Poe will take, so he just tosses a quick alarm at the front of the house and gets back to work, until the spell pings that someone has arrived.
This has the added benefit of Taako being able to open the door as Poe raise a hand to knock, which he likes because it makes him seem kinda mysterious and powerful. Other good things: the house is warm and smells of gingerbread.]
Come on in, my man.
no subject
Probably literally.
The warmth and the smell of something baking reminds him in an odd way of the ranch on Yavin 4, and his dad's habit of cooking whenever Poe comes home. It relaxes him, which is good. ]
What're you making?
no subject
[It's not too bad, getting the cakes to roll without crumbling is a skill he learned a long time ago.]
You want a coffee or something or you wanna get right into it?
no subject
[ He hadn't really thought about the socializing part of this. He was too fixated on BIRB. ]
Sure. Coffee would be good. That won't, I dunno, mess the spell up?
no subject
Oh, nah, the only thing you gotta do is not fight me. And as long as I'm sober and not concussed or whatever, I can cast.
no subject
no subject
[He's kidding!]
no subject
That leaves the nerves. ]
So. Not fight you. What does that mean? [ Like, it sounds fairly obvious, but what does he know about magic? ]
no subject
There's a lotta spells that are basically a contest of wills. You'll get a sense that something's being done to you, and you can either relax or you can try to push back against my magic.
no subject
[ The fear in his expression is brief but unmistakable.
He can do this. It'll be good for him to do this. Try to let go of another piece of what the First Order did.
He can do this. ]
Does it hurt? [ Not that pain will stop him, either. ]
no subject
Doesn't hurt at all. Watch.
[Taako sets his coffee down and moves a hand through the air, and before the gesture is even finished he's changing shape. It's a quick, smooth process, and then in the place of an elf there's a fluffy ragdoll cat.
Cat-Taako promptly hops up onto the table, close enough that Poe can touch him to check that it's real, not an illusion.]
no subject
Just... there's no words for it, really, internally or not.
Poe reaches out cautiously, not sure if this is rude, or something. Still, there is a fluffy cat right there, and Poe can't resist giving Taako a scritch behind the ears. ]
This is weird.
no subject
That's why he isn't planning to stay in it for long; he lightly bumps his head against Poe's hand, then goes trotting back towards to the edge of the table to leap down.
By the time his feet touch the floor, he's elf-shaped again.]
Magic's pretty great, huh?
no subject
[ IT'S FECKING WEIRD, TAAKO. ]
no subject
[What's cooler than a regular sized bird? A GIANT BIRD]
no subject
He sets the cup down hard and exhales. ]
Let's do this.
no subject
Courtyard, I'm not getting feathers all over my kitchen.
[And then he heads that way, picking up his umbrella as he passes it. He didn't need it to polymorph himself, but it's always good to have a focus when casting on another person.]
no subject
I can do this. [ He is standing in his friend's courtyard about to get turned into a bird. ] I can do this. I can fly anything.
[ EVEN HIMSELF?? ]
no subject
You'll still be you, but there's instincts you can tap into, it comes easy.
[Moving the way the creature is designed to, even though it'll be an entirely new experience for a human person.]
Just relax, darling, you're in good hands.
[Taako lets go of Poe's shoulder as he casts the spell; it's as easy as doing it to himself, and just as quick.
Poe is, for an hour, a giant eagle.]
no subject
He can do this. He can do this.
He can--
Poe lets out a shriek of surprise, beating wings that were arms a second ago and lifting several inches off the ground before he realizes what he's doing. He can flex his feet. Okay that's not new, really, but he can flex his bird feet. He hops experimentally from one to the other, and then...
Then he looks up. He looks up at that planet in the sky overhead, vision telescoping weirdly, the clouds and everything between sky and earth sharp and close.
Wings spread. Crouch.
Leap.
And he's in the sky. He's in the sky, barreling upward under his own power, wind his sudden ally instead of a force to compensate against. He yells, and it comes out as an echoing shriek, and this might just be the coolest thing he's done since his first time flying his mom's A-wing solo.
...Yeah he'll be back in an hour. He's not even looking down. ]
no subject
One hour!
[Before Poe flies off, not wanting him to turn back human while up in the air over the forest or something.
And then he heads back instead, not sure if Poe is planning to return or not, but it doesn't really hurt to leave the back door open just in case he does.]
