A hundred of 'em, we kind of did this fucked up century journey running from a reality consuming entity. Our world is gone and our ship was pretty much destroyed, so we're gonna spend the rest of our lives on Toril.

I was thinking we could start with the world you were born on but if you'd rather not, I understand.

I guess the big thing with it compared to Earth is that we got a fuckload of different races, elves, gnomes, dwarves, orcs, dragonborn, tieflings, et cetera. And there's the magic thing, but uh, you're familiar with it? Most of you thugs from Earth don't seem to have it.

[ She isn't sure whether to be impressed or worried by the response but then he's probably had plenty of time to accept something like that. On a deeper level, Karen hopes she can come to accept this place the same way if she ends up being stuck here.

We have most of that in movies and books. Video games. People wish they were real - that that kind of magic was real - but no, they don't exist in our world in the same way. At least not the one I'm from.

[ Adding that last bit because oh god imagining other Earths is just... kind of headache-inducing if she tries to stay too focused on it. ]

The magic I know about is... ninja-based, I guess. More mystical arts and human sacrifices than elves and gnomes.

[He's fairly educated on the whole video games and movies thing, so that doesn't warrant much more than a nod of understanding. Humans are, if nothing else, imaginative.]

Human sacrifice is pretty fucked up, we don't uh, we don't really do that? I mean, evil people do it I guess, but there's not a lotta general magic that requires that shit, unless you're fucking around with demons or eldritch horrors or whatever.

I don't really know what they were fucking around with or even what they wanted... Just that would drain people dry and whatever else they were doing, it was going to tear the whole city apart in the process.

[ She reaches up to swipe a strand of hair behind her ear, her expression grave for a moment at the memory of it all but trying to shake it off and stay in the present. ]

Did you ever experience anything similar on the other planets you went to? That kind of magic or anything like where you were born?

A lotta realities were weird but they all kinda fit the same basics? There were e;even planes, including the plane of magic, so it was all pretty similar to the kinda shit we were used to. There was uh, one place I couldn't do any magic? But I dunno if that was the whole planet or just the... courtroom, I guess you'd call it? They killed us pretty quick on that one.

[So he doesn't really know a lot about it.]

[ It's a lot to take in - just accepting that magic is a Thing that exists - but she's trying to follow it all. And she thinks she's understanding it well enough until that last bit.

Our ship, it kind of, uh... it sort of saved a copy of us, the first time we left our planar system. Every year when we left whatever system we were in, it'd sorta refresh us back to that point. If we died, lost a limb, changed our hair, none of it mattered. We'd be good as new, just with an extra year of memories.

[The only thing that stuck was Lup and Barry turning themselves into liches, but that's way too complicated to explain.]

[ She sighs and leans forward again, nodding as that does make sense. She's not sure about the rest but she can at least get that part. She takes another sip of her coffee before asking, ]

[ That's the best way she can describe it from her experience. ]

Came through the portal, same as everyone else. I think the Starblaster is kinda fucked now, not sure how it fared in the last battle, but it's cool, we all managed to survive on Fearun so we don't gotta revive anyone.
