[He doesn't care if Taako laughs, although the prideful part of him twinges. He smiles, amused at his own disastrous work, but at least aspects of it are appetizing.

He sniffs.]

[He moves in to give Thor a light kiss on the cheek, because really, it's a very nice thought and he was laughing at the words themselves, not Thor's effort.]

Apple galettes in the oven, and these are going into a savory tart. We're catering some charity event, can't remember what the cause was, but it's getting in the fall spirit.

[Thor leans in for the kiss on his cheek, since he's used to his height being a hindrance for this sort of thing. He returns the gesture with a kiss on the top of Taako's head, it seems appropriate.]

They do love a change of season around here. [Thor muses.]

Can I do anything to help? [Please let him be useful.]

[At least he's not as short as Bryn.]

They love a party here.

[Taako can relate, even if he knows the reasoning behind their constant festivities.

But - yes, he's technically working, so he waves Thor towards the coffee pot as he gets back to his vegetables.]

You wanna get a pot started for me? Grounds are in the cabinet above the pot.

Generous of you to ask me to do the one thing I know how to do.

[Thor is no baker, but he is talented at preparing breakfast at the very least. If there's one thing he finds truly amazing about Earth and similar cultures, it's coffee.

He sets about making it, he doesn't really need much guidance to get it started.]

You keep yourself busy, then. [He gestures around at the kitchen, Taako's workspace.]

[Taako chuckles, pleased that at least he doesn't have to guide Thor through the basic process of making coffee.]

I know that this isn't as cool as all the wizard shit, but it's kinda what I do, it's what I'm good at.

It doesn't need to be cool to be gratifying. [It's not a word that sounds natural coming from Thor.]

I regret being so single-minded. I have almost no talents beyond my ability to "hit things". [He does the air quotes, then laughs.]

I did try gardening.

[That's somewhat surprisingly insightful, coming from Thor (no offense).]

Well, I mean, hitting things was your job, right?

[He's not sure exactly what's involved in being gods and princes, but both Asgardians have mentioned plenty of battles.]

Doesn't hurt to have a hobby, I guess, but the magic stuff is that for me. I only stopped cooking cause my shithead assistant framed me for poisoning forty people.

[It's said casually, as he scrapes the vegetables into a tray and starts tossing them with oil and seasoning. Glamorsprings will always be a black mark, but he's had it dragged up so much lately that he's almost numb to it.]

I prefer protector of the realm. [But he knows it doesn't matter anyway.

Thor raises his brow at the story. Both because it sounds morbid and because Taako seems to gloss over it.]

For what purpose?

I'll jot it down.

[He actually does - or, well, a blue magical hand writes it down on the chalkboard he has hanging on the fridge. The hand even underlines it.]

Oh, like, jealousy? He knew he was never gonna be as good as Taako so he tried to get rid of me.

[Thor gives the hand a flat look, but he nods in thanks and the smile returns to his lips.]

People take baking so seriously? [He's struggling to imagine it.] Did you kill him?

[Rude? He looks so offended.]

I was fucking famous. [So!! Yes!! People take it seriously.] And nah, he was gone by the time I figured it out, but now the entire reality we live in heard our song, including him, so I hope he's terrified that one of the people who stopped the apocalypse is gonna come fuck him up.

[Some of that sentence made sense.]

Famous for being a chef? [He doesn't mean to sound condescending, there just isn't an Asgardian Gordon Ramsay. If there were, he'd be a fearsome warrior.

Maybe that's why everything Taako said seems to make sense.]

If he came here, I could do to him what he did to you. [This is, of course, extremely comforting talk for Thor.]

First of all, I'm not taking that satisfaction from Lup.

[If anyone gets to tear Sazed a new one, it's her.

But also, Taako puts the vegetables in the oven, then goes into the fridge where he searches around for a moment before coming out with a cake container. He opens it, cuts a slice, and carefully sets it on a plate that's then set in front of Thor, with a fork on the side.

There are four layers to it, each of them perfectly flat, there are two thin layers of flourless chocolate cake, with one large layer each of caramel cremeux and chocolate mousse. The whole thing is covered in a caramel glaze.]

Eat.

I certainly won't stand in the way of revenge. [Not Thor, the leader of the illustrious Revengers.

Thor finishes making the coffee with good timing. He's comfortable just grabbing whatever he might need to make them. He asks Taako how he has it and makes it accordingly and pushes it toward him when he comes at him with cake.

He raises a brow at it, then at Taako, then he eats and the best compliment he offers is that he savours it rather shoveling it down.]

You've made your point well. [Very well, he's licking the fork.] Why do you not pursue fame here?

[There's still more work to be done on the food prep, but Taako figures he can take a little break to drink his coffee and watch Thor eat one of the better cakes he's made in the last couple weeks.

When the compliment finally comes, he looks very smug.]

It's a work in progress, but like, this place is a lot different than home. I had a travelling show, you know? Not the fucking internet and TV.

[Taako can appreciate Thor making all manners of pleased noises as he polishes off the cake. Just like the fork, he licks the plate.]

The internet and TV is great. I love the internet and TV. [He's so agreeable.] Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't taste through the internet. How would you use it to your gain?

It's all about flair and presentation, like any kinda TV personality. You wanna make people jealous, so they buy your cookbook and cry themselves to sleep when they know their shit isn't half as good as yours would be.

[Thor notes Taako's reaction, and he doesn't even pretend not to notice. He smiles, because he's a tease, then wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.]

Well, you certainly have flair. As for making people jealous.. [He shrugs.] But if you made things like that every day, I know lots of people would cry with envy.

[Yeah, yeah, Taako just rolls his eyes as if he hasn't just been caught out.]

That's how I like it. [People crying with envy?? Why is he so mean.] Anyway, uh, I'm pretty alright with where things are at now, it's not like I'm planning to stick around in this reality so it'd be a waste of energy to get super famous.

Maybe so, but it's difficult to live life as if you're waiting for the inevitable. There's no harm in taking chances for the present.

[He won't nag, he's just getting on everyone's case about this.] I will be sad to lose you when they decide to send you home.

[Taako's spent his whole life running and reaching for something more, there's a reason the Judges accused him of never being satisfied, because he's isn't, because whatever he has isn't enough, there could be more fame or more money or more security. It's a result of a childhood spent struggling, but it's exhausting.

But for once, he's content. This place isn't permanent, but he has Lup and Magnus and Lucretia, he has Rin who he's very fond of, and friends that he cares about. Their house is comfortable, safe, and he likes the work he's doing. He doesn't need to push himself.

That's hard to explain though, and while he likes Thor plenty, Taako isn't one to delve too deeply into his feelings in conversation.]

Maybe they'll send you home first, then you won't have to miss anyone.

[That's... sweet, though? No one's said that to him yet, even though he's sure it's true for a few people. the closest thing he got was Clark's letter, which is still tucked safely away in his room.]

I suppose that depends on whether we return with memories of this place. [He'll miss quite a few people, even when his mind is focused back on the troubles in his world.]

Even so, I fear there will be people I'll miss all the same. [Starts with an L, ends with a really bittersweet conversation about needing inter-dimensional space from one another.]

My money's on forgetting.

[How else could Lup have been from such an earlier time and not have said something? Or Lucretia or Magnus?

He's resigned himself to it, even if it stings a little, especially with his own issues about memories. But that's not really something to dwell on; Taako finishes his coffee, sets the mug down, snaps his fingers to clean his hands (magic!) then gets back to work. He can talk and make a dough, he just likes keeping his hands busy.

And because he can hear what Thor isn't saying:]

Loki's gonna stay here, isn't he?

[Thor doesn't mind if Taako occupies himself with a task. He almost wants to ask for another job, but he feels at this point he'd hinder more than help. He works on his coffee slowly, taking a sip before he responds.]

Rogers invited him back to his world.

[He says it as impassively as he can.]
