[ Rin still can't quite wrap his head around all these winter holidays, but he's a pretty quick study. Gifts are involved--that's the main thing, right?

Thus, one mysterious night, he leaves a gift sitting on Taako's windowsill. It's a potion in a glass blown bottle (the red one, specifically); the liquid is diaphanous and glittering, as though made from crushed diamonds. A black card in fine stock rests against the potion, and the inscription is written in shimmering gold calligraphy:

Elixir of Peace.

One sip ensures a tranquil mood for a period of at least twenty-four hours, and kind dreams upon resting, whether in sleep or a trance. Tastes like sparkling peach wine. Non-alcoholic. ]

(Lucretia records this message and sends it to Taako so it doesn't have to be a real time thing, just in case this is breaking the whole 'casual politeness' thing they've got goin' on. Like, it absolutely is breaking it but... she wants to share this with him, because she's pretty sure he'll like it.)

Hey– I don't know if you saw that ice maze the Quarantine put up a couple weeks back now, but there were presents in it and I got something cool. (She holds up a journal, turning it to the side so he can see that it's full to almost bursting, held shut with a thick red rubber band.) It's from cycle thirty-two, the one with the purple and green hills. Remember? Merle fell down that crevasse with all the crystals and Lup wouldn't stop making jokes about cracks, look.

(Getting the rubber band off is a tricky operation. There's a lot of loose stuff crammed in between the pages: bits of paper, odd flora, a bit of Lup embroidery that she holds up for the camera for him to see (it says, in bright red capitals: U GOT AN INHALER? CUZ I HEARD U GOT DAT ASS MA.))

I can send it over if you like. This thing is a... treasure trove of bad in-jokes. (She pauses for a moment, staring fondly at a page, and then hefts it up for him to see: a drawing she'd been doing, presumably at a more casual meeting. They're all in the common area, and Davenport has his head bowed over something he's working on with Barry. Merle is clearly asleep, his head tipped right back against a beanbag. Magnus has his arm around Taako's shoulders. It looks like he's whispering something to him, because Taako is laughing, and Lup is across from the both of them, her feet in Taako's lap. She's painting her toenails.

Lucretia lowers the book again, and gives the camera a little grin.)

[ Well, his number's up. Time to go. He wishes he could stay, but he knows he can't. His sister is waiting for him. The rest of his family, too--though they are an obstacle to be faced, nothing more.

He decides he doesn't want to make this harder than it has to be. He leaves a letter and a box of ornate potions for Taako--potions for healing, for purification, for making your skin super nice. And a letter, written in a flowing, spidery script. ]

They've called my name, I'm afraid. I want you to know how grateful I am--for everything. These past few months with you have been more respite than I ever thought I'd experience or deserve. Thank you for your kindness; your humor; your understanding. I will carry them with me always.

(This text sure is tentative but Lucretia promised she'd let him know when she finally started seeing through his eyes, so...)

It's happening. (Boy is it ever happening. It's a whole lot, actually. She knows that Taako would much rather not talk about his feelings at all (and this probably includes her even bringing it up right now), but she can't bring herself to ignore everything that's going through his head right now. She's feeling residual sadness and everything.)

D'you want to talk about it?

[It starts with an early morning scroll this his instagram feed, there's an innocuous post about holograms that leaves Taako confused and troubled in a way he can't quite understand until he digs further, pulling up a few more posts, a few articles from local reporters. The people that recently arrived didn't come through the portal, they're holograms, created because some idiots fucked up again.

He feels sick. It's almost the same sinking feeling he got when the first person fell sick at Glamorsprings. The sudden, crushing knowledge that what comes next is a terrible thing. For a brief moment he's tempted not to say anything about it, but if he knows anything it's that Kravitz can see right through his bullshit and he doesn't have the strength to sell this particular lie.

He'd told Kravtiz to stay, to use the spare bedroom and it had seemed like a good decision at the time but now it's early morning and he's just woken up and there's no delaying this, not when he desperately needs to know if it's true or not. It doesn't occur to him to change from his pajamas or put his glamor on, all Taako can do is thrown open the door to the spare bedroom without even knocking to demand:]

Taako... Lup's been turned into a kid and she's freaking out and wants to see you. She thinks I'm a creepy weirdo and honestly? Yeah I would too.

[ Mass texts usually aren't Cisco's thing; he likes the individual approach. But in this case, it seems easier to just send this to the whole IPRE gang at once, so there's no need for them to tell one another or ask questions or get confused.
